You may think that your laptop is broken or something serious is going on with it. But it is a common issue faced by hundreds of people in reality.

You don’t have to worry much about it as a few techniques can resolve it. I have faced this issue quite a lot in the past, due to which I decided to share how you can fix it.

How to Reduce Laptop Heat

If you are looking for a trick about How to Reduce Laptop Heat, then you are in the right place. We are going to discuss a few ways by which you can get rid of this heating issue.

But first, let’s discuss what are the common problems due to which the overheating of laptops occurs.

Why Does Laptop Overheat?

You may have this question in mind why is my laptop overheating all of a sudden? The common cause of overheating is the lack of airflow within the laptop.

The CPU fan might not be providing sufficient cooling to keep the laptop from heating up.

It can be due to the blockage of grills or ports by dust, degenerated plastic, or a clogged fan. The heat can also be due to the lithium battery that has become old enough.

Not only this but running multiple software while using the laptop or putting it on an uneven surface can cause the laptop to overheat. All of these can also be considered laptop overheating symptoms.

But don’t worry. There are ways by which this overheating can be resolved. Now we will discuss the methods, so stay tuned and read the rest of the guide.

How to Reduce Laptop Heat?

There are various ways that you can use to avoid overheating your laptop easily. We will discuss every method so that you don’t have to face this issue in the future.

1. Place It On A Flat Surface

Firstly, you need to place your laptop on a flat surface. Use can use a table to do so.

When you put your laptop on your lap or blanket, it blocks the air vents, due to which the cooling mechanism of the laptop ceases, and your laptop heats up.

If you don’t want your laptop to heat up abnormally, then place it on an even surface. Another danger of putting the laptop on your lap is the heat coming out of the laptop can be dangerous for your skin.

So always remember to put a flat surface underneath to avoid heating up and keep yourself safe.

2. Clean The Airways And Fan

If placing it on an even surface doesn’t do the trick, then the next step you can take is to clean the airways and the fan. For that, you need to have the same tools.

I don’t know which laptop you use, but a tutorial for everything is available on youtube.

So firstly, check your laptop’s model and search youtube on how you can open it. Once you have opened it successfully, use a dry brush, always remember not to use a wet brush or cloth to damage the circuitry.

Clean the fan or any dust you see inside the laptop. Once you have cleaned it, the fans will start to work the way they should, and your laptop will stop overheating.

3. Use A Laptop Cooler Underneath

You need to invest in a cooling pad if you see that the laptop is not cooling down despite all your efforts.

Go to the market and purchase a compatible and affordable cooling pad for your laptop. It will help in keeping your laptop cool in gaming or even if you are using it for intense functions.

They elevate your laptop from the surface to allow adequate airflow and have a built-in fan that enhances the laptop’s cooling. If you use your laptop for prolonged hours, then a cooling pad is a must-have device.

4. Control Fan Speed

You can also control your laptop’s CPU fan speed. There is much different software that allows you to control the fan speed. You might notice that the speed at which the fan is moving is not enough to cool down your laptop.

In that case, you can use this software to enhance the fan speed, thus increasing the laptop’s cooling capability.

5. Avoid Sunlight

Always try to avoid direct sunlight on your laptop. Many plastic parts inside a laptop can wrap around, causing significant issues in the laptop’s internal environment.

Not only this, but sunlight can increase the laptop’s temperature and make it difficult for the fan to cool it down.

Suppose you use your laptop continuously for hours in this way. In that case, it will cause some permanent damage to your laptop that you won’t be able to fix without paying a certain amount.

Also, avoid storing your laptops in cars under direct heat.

6. Reduce The Usage

Another thing that you can do is decrease the usage. Suppose you are using an older laptop or one that is not compatible enough to handle the extensive functions that you are doing.

In this case, you either need to buy a new laptop or decrease your usage. Because there may not be any other way to reduce your laptop’s overheating.

7. Use a Lap desk

You can also buy a lap desk for your laptop usage. It will provide elevation and a flat surface for your laptop. Both of these things are essential in reducing the overheating of your laptop.

There are many lap desks available in the market that you can buy to decrease your laptop’s heating. You can buy a cooling pad along with a lap desk to ensure that the laptop doesn’t get overheated.

8. Use Compatible Hardware

If you use your laptop for functions that require your laptop to work extensively, then you shouldn’t use old hardware with your laptop.

These can cause an issue as old hardware may not be compatible with the newer software. It will surely increase the laptop temperature, and you won’t be able to do anything.

The CPU draws more power from the battery, thus draining it out more quickly and heating the laptop. You need to have a new laptop if the older one is not compatible enough, or you might have to face heating issues and less efficiency.

9. Check If the Fan Is Working

Sometimes the fan of your laptop malfunctions, due to which the laptop heats up but is not able to cool down. Notice the sound of the fan when you start your laptop.

If you don’t hear the fan’s sound, immediately consult a specialist, so you can fix this problem before it causes any other software or hardware issues.

10. Check Your Battery’s Situation

You might find it shocking, but a worn-out battery can cause your laptop to heat up.

The lithium-ion batteries used in laptops and mobile phones use a lot of energy if they become old. In this case, the battery percentage drops quicker than usual and can also decrease your laptop’s efficiency.

So, if you think your battery is draining out quickly, then either your battery is old enough or asks you to replace it. There could be a hardware or software malfunction that is using your battery and draining it out.

11. Check Power Settings

You should check the power settings too. There are certain power management options from where you can control the cooling process of your laptop. You can make two significant changes and then check if these work.

Firstly, change the power plan settings to Balanced and then change the Cooling policy from Plugged to Active.

It will decrease the watts usage of certain parts of the laptop that are not required for higher efficiency, thus reducing the heat and increasing the cooling capacity.

12. Make Software Changes

If all the hardware solutions don’t work, you need to jump to the software solutions. In it, you can try to reduce your laptop’s brightness or reduce the GPU clock speed. But doing so can also reduce your laptop’s efficiency.

So, the final solution you’ll have is to replace your old overheating with a new affordable one. It might cost a little more but will be worth the change.

13. Check BIOS Settings

Go and check if the fan settings are optimal, and if no factor in it is not allowing the fan to produce optimal cooling.

Sometimes the set temperature is way above the average temperature. The fan doesn’t cool it enough as it has the orders to reduce heat to a certain level.

Conclusion

So that’s it. All the ways that I have researched and used were added in this guide about How to Reduce Laptop Heat. You can try all of them or some of them and see which one works best for you.
